Year 2008 : Bright Year for UiTM

Shah Alam – This year is nominated as the year of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) as an International Universityto sustain the global challenge. The Vice Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Dato’ Seri Prof. Madya Dr. Ibrahim Abu Shah has delivered the “Amanat Tahun Baru 2008” at Seri Budiman Hall, last Wednesday.

Promoting the E-Learning and executes the OBE process instantly have to be taken in order to built UiTM as World Class University, he said. Ibrahim also urged all the head of department to follow the instruction and policy which is related to the international universities. According to him, during these years of growth, UiTM has built on the educational infrastructure placed by its founders to a level comparable to many international universities. UiTM has forged linkages with a number of professional bodies, such as the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Chartered Institute of Transport (CIT), Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA), Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and many others around the world. Over the years, UiTM has started collaborating with international universities. So far, UiTM has more than 100 partner universities.

Journalism students strengthen ties with Kolej Shahputra

This year the journalism degree students of UiTM will be organizing an Academic Visit at Kuantan, Pahang. The visit which is set to be on the 22 February, will be held for 3 days.

The visit will be in collaboration with the journalism students of Kolej Shah Putra there. According to the ProjectManager, Azreen Hani, the objective of the visit is to strengthen the ties between UiTM and the Kolej. “We are looking forward with the visit as we are hoping that we can create a good relationship with them,” she said. “Since there are not many journalism students there, we are hoping that with this visit and the activities that we are organizing will help attract more students in the near future,” she added. The activities which will be held include a talk with the topic “The World of Journalism” by guest speaers and group activities to strengthen the bond. There will be almost 200 students participating in the visit and the fee that is being charged for the 3 days 2 nights visit is RM60 per person inclusive with daily meals. The students will be accommodated
at the Duyung Beach Resort, Cherating. Last year the journalism family day was held at Bukit Cahaya Seri Alam and a dinner to appreciate the journalism students was held at the Carlton Holiday Hotel.

Klinik pergigian dibuka untuk kemudahan pelajar

SHAH ALAM – Fakulti Pergigian Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) di sini melangkah setapak apabila membuka sebuah klinik pergigian bagi kegunaan pelajar fakulti tersebut.

Dekan Fakulti Pergigian, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Abu Hassan berkata, pihaknya bersama dengan universiti telah membuat perancangan penubuhan klinik itu membolehkan pelajar menjalankan latihan praktikal mereka. “Klinik ini sebenarnya merupakan satu keperluan fakulti bagi membolehkan pelajar pergigian menjalankan latihan amali tanpa perlu ke hospital atau klinik diluar UiTM”, katanya.

Beliau menafikan pembukaan klinik tersebut telah memberi saingan kepada klinik pergigian yang sedia ada di Pusat Kesihatan UiTM. “Klinik ini adalah untuk memberi kemudahan kepada seluruh warga UiTM termasuk staf, pelajar dan orang luar mendapatkan rawatan asas secara percuma,” katanya.

Menurutnya lagi rawatan-rawatan asas yang tidak dikenakan sebarang bayaran termasuklah cabut, tampal dan gigi palsu. “Bagaimanapun, khidmat rawatan yang lebih sukar dan teknikal seperti crowning dan bridge akan dikenakan bayaran yang berpatutan. “Berbeza dengan klinik pergigian yang sedia ada di Pusat Kesihatan UiTM, rawatan di klinik ini akan dikendalikan oleh para pelajar tahun akhir dengan pengawasan pensyarah mereka,”katanya lagi.

Latihan praktikal ini adalah syarat untuk pelajar-pelajar ini melengkapkan kursus pengajian mereka serta memberi pendedahan dan pengalaman kepada mereka dalam merawat pesakit sebenar. Keutamaan diberikan kepada pelajar untuk memberikan khidmat rawatan. Walau bagaimanapun pensyarah akan turut memberi rawatan sekiranya terdapat kes yang tidak dapat diselesaikan oleh pelajar ini.

Menurutnya khidmat ini pula akan dikenakan bayaran. Sebagai permulaan, klinik ini dilengkapi dengan kerusi pergigian jenis Adapt 500 yang pertama seumpamanya di Malaysia untuk kegunaan para pelajar. Manakala kerusi pergigian jenis Adapt 511 disediakan bagi kegunaan pakar. Selain itu terdapat sebuah mesin Camsite bernilai RM300 000 untuk pembedahan gigi yang juga satu-satunya alat yang terdapat di negara ini.

Dengan kekuatan staf seramai empat orang, klinik tersebut akan mula dibuka secara berperingkat kepada orang ramai bermula Februari ini dan akan dibuka sepenuhnya apabila telah mempunyai kakitangan yang mencukupi. Klinik pergigian ini dijangka akan dibuka secara rasmi pada Julai tahun ini oleh Naib Canselor UiTM.

Silat Cekak Hanafi tours to attract new members

SHAH ALAM – A “stay cool” silat demonstration or also known as Silat Tour around College was presented by the members of Silat Cekak Hanafi club of UiTM from eight days starting 9 January.

The demonstration tour was presented in every college in the campus including Puncak Perdana and Alamanda branch.

According to Vice President of the campus team Fairuz Haffizi, the purpose of the demonstration is to introduce the martial art to all students as one of the way to raise awareness on how to protect themselves from danger especially the female students.

“Since there are a lot of criminal cases and robbery reported nowadays, the club took the opportunity to help those who needed the skills,” he said.

According to him, the main purpose of the demonstration is to attract new members to join the club.

The club had 300 registered members since it was established and the amounts are increasing from semester to semester.

The demonstration is a compulsory club activity and being conducted for every semester in this university.

Fairuz said the target amount of registration for every college is about 10 per cent of the college population and it successfully attracted 60 to 70 students to register at the end of the demonstration.

“Silat Cekak Hanafi is different from other martial arts and it has it own unique steps that are simple to be followed. “Apart from that, it only takes two semesters for the members to complete all the levels in the silat step,” said Fairuz.

The biggest challenge faced by the club is to maintain the member’s participation in completing all levels. He said, to avoid those things from happening, the club has organize interesting activities through out the semesters such as members gathering, tour and others. According to Nurul Nazrah, one of Kolej Melati resident, she thinks this program as one of the interesting activity that could not be left out because besides protecting her from harm.

“I see silat as one of the ways to stay healthy,” she said. Furthermore, she also supports the program and hope that the club will continue its success since it had been in the Malaysian Book of Records 2005 for The Largest Participant in Silat Performance and also The Largest Participant for All Women Silat Performance.

Go-Kart club under Rakan Muda welcomes all UiTM students

The new club is heating up as Go-Kart is one of the most favourable activities among teenagers

SHAH ALAM – A new Go-Kart club of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) was formed last Thursday under the Rakan Muda Club. According to the Vice President of the club, Tengku Mohd Azmin Tengku Azhar, thepurpose is to give opportunity to the students to try the activity in the campus itself. Apart from attracting new members among students,
they are also offering them to use the facility at a lower cost.

“Besides that, there are already hundred members joining the club and we are looking forward in preparing activities for them,” added him. Members are acquired to pay RM 20 for the club fees and the weekly meetings is held on every Thursday. Lastly, he also said that the club welcomes all the university students and hoping that the club will serve them with the best that they can.
